Rev. Carl B. Thompson
Lead Pastor
Rev. Carl B. Thompson is a native and product of Roxbury, MA. Many pastors have poured into him to develop his ministerial character, life, and ministry. He has served this congregation for 16 years, since 2008. He has brought about healing, strong Christian leadership, and, most of all, an extraordinary vision. He has a sincere pastor's heart and loves helping people to develop and transform their lives through the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. He began ministry at age 15 under Bishop Warren M. Brown of the Columbus Ave. A.M.E. Zion Church in the south end. He is a devoted father who is devoted to his calling.
Through his leadership, he has guided the congregation through many transitions. He has led the church toward the acquisition of new church property. This was a significant and emotional transition for the congregation, which is 153 years old and has been at the exact location all of these years. He navigated the church through this transition amid a global pandemic with sensitivity to all the surrounding factors and issues. He has sustained our 501c-3 and created a financial strategic plan for the church's future. His leadership and genuine devotion to God have yielded positive outcomes. God has continued to bless the work at this church. He is a young man with unusual wisdom for his age while exhibiting outstanding commitment to kingdom building. We expectantly await how and where God will continue to maintain and expand our ministry. He continues to build upon a remarkable succession of gifted and giant pastors and is truly an added blessing to the life and ministry of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He has a broad ecumenical background in terms of his leadership. He has pastored the Historical St. Mark Congregational Church in Roxbury, MA. He serves as the Protestant Chaplain for the City of Boston Fire Department. He is an alumnus of Temple University with a B.S. Degree in Health Education; he attended Andover-Newton Theological School, Newton, MA; he holds a Master of Ministry Degree from Anderson University, SC., and MDiv degree from Luther Rice College and Seminary, Lithonia, GA. He is pursuing his Doctoral of Ministry Degree from the prestigious United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.
